2021 Thomas Damon Memorial Scholarship Tournament Results and Prize Fund
Congratulations to all of our winners, cashers, and advancers. We have completed all the double and triple checking of the results from last week’s Thomas Damon Memorial Scholarship Tournament. We are so THANKFUL that you came to bowl in our first big event. We are also sincerely thankful that your parents put their trust in us to execute a safe tournament under strict and difficult conditions. Hopefully, our future events will not have to be planned around COVID-19 and we can get back to traditional bowling events.
Junior Gold 2022 Advancers: We held off finalizing the results, until we could get clarification from the USBC on how to execute the EARP rule properly (see page 8 of the Junior Gold Tournament Guide on Bowl.com for full details). We had a few instances that if we utilized this rule along with the 1:4 ratio and the greatest fraction thereof; we could advance more bowlers. Any shortages for the Junior Gold fees were paid for from the Edwin L. Walters Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund is run by Erica Walters Zilk on behalf of her family in honor of their father and bowling coach.
On behalf Virginia Beach Youth Bowling, Inc., I am pleased to release the official prize fund. This past weekend, we had 183 entries from up and down the east coast. It was our pleasure to be able to make new friends and reconnect with others. We were Blessed with a larger donation than last year to make an even bigger impact on the futures of the bowlers.
Our Total Prize fund was $21,565 in Scholarships plus $2650 towards Jr. Gold advancements.
Congratulations to the following advancers:

A million thanks to the all of our volunteers and supporters, and especially our computer gurus who did all they could, to have this be another successful tournament. A special Thank You to our “alumni” who came out to help us this weekend. I wish we could have been able to hold such events when you would have been eligible to bowl, but having you come back to support us tells me we did something right. You have grown to be amazing young adults and we are so PROUD of you!
Thank you to the Collegiate Coaches and Team representatives who took the time to come and help us inform the youth bowlers of the opportunities available to them. We hope that you were able to meet some wonderful young bowlers with bright futures on and off the lanes.
Finally, to Dwight Mitchum and the staff of Pinboy’s at the Beach for giving us the opportunity again to host this event. Thank you for always having the coffee ready for me and for always doing your best for our kiddos and their families.
Sincerely,
Erica K. Zilk
