Carroll Ditteaux Memorial Scholarship Scotch Doubles Tournament is a bowling competition for High School Bowlers, hosted by Virginia Beach Youth Bowling Inc, at Pinboy's at the Beach on November 9th, 2024. Carroll Ditteaux Memorial Scholarship Scotch Doubles Tournament Rules:

 

1.  This is a USBC Certified Tournament. All bowlers must have current USBC membership. All USBC rules will apply.

2.  The maximum age to enter is 19 as of 8/1/2024.

3.  This is a Pins-Over-Average event bowled in a Scotch Doubles format.

a.      Average will be house adjusted (minimum 21 game) highest bowl.com 2023-2024 season. No summer averages will be used.

b.      Bowlers without 2023-2024 Bowl.com average will use adjusted current season 21 game average as of November 1, 2024.

c.      Bowlers are responsible for providing average verification. Bowlers without verifiable average will use 220 to determine team’s  tournament average.

d.      Tournament average will be ½ of the team’s combined average.

4.  All bowlers must be enrolled/active High School students in the 9th through 12th Grade level.

a.      Bowlers are responsible for providing verification of high school enrollment.

5.  Divisional Competition (2 divisions):

a.      Upper Classman – Senior & Junior Boys & Girls

b.      Under Classman – Sophomore & Freshman Boys & Girls

6. Teams are composed of any combination of gender within each division (either Upper or Under Class).

7.  Up to three teams will be assigned to each pair of lanes. Maximum of 90 teams. The teams will alternate lanes after each frame. All games in the Qualifying round will be bowled on the same pair of lanes.

8.  Bowlers on the team alternate delivery of every ball (including 10th frame), except for the beginning of a new game.

a.      Each bowler on the team will deliver the first ball of every other game.

9.      Pinboy’s at the Beach ‘house pattern’ will be the lane condition.

10.  Lane conditioning will be done prior to the practice round, prior to the Qualifying round, and prior to the Match Play finals.

11.  Entries are to be submitted online at vabeachyouthbowlinginc.com.

a.      Incomplete entries will not be accepted.

b.      Multiple entries are not permitted.

c.      No Walk-in entries the day of the tournament will be accepted

12.  Entry fees:

a.      Entries without full payment for two bowlers will not be accepted.

b.      $100.00 per team:

i.     Lineage - $20.00 ,  Expenses - $0.00, Prize - $80.00

ii.     A Late Fee of $20.00 per team entry will be charged for any entries postmarked or completed online after November 1, 2024.        Late fees are added to the prize fund.

c.      All prize fees will be returned 100%.

d.      Payments can be made to VBYBI by:

                i.     Cash, Credit Card, or PayPal

13.  Event Format:

a.      One-day event - Saturday

i.     Practice round:

1.      8:00 am to 9:00 am

ii.     Qualifying round: One squad (both divisions)

1.      10:00 am (check-in begins 9:00 am)

a.      If entries are limited (less than 8 teams in the Upper Class division), the Qualifying Round will be waived and    teams will advance to Match Play finals at 10:00 am.

2.      Under Class division teams will be ranked by total pins-over-average for 10 games and prizes will be awarded for 1st through 8th places.

iii.     Match Play Finals: (Upper Classman division only)

1.  3:00 pm (check-in begins at 2:00 pm)

2.  The top 8 teams in the Upper Class division ranked by total pins-over-average for 10 games in the Qualifying round                    advance to Match Play Finals and will earn scholarship awards.

3.  Match Play Finals are a ‘round-robin’ format.

a.      Each team will bowl one 2-game match against each other team in their division. Lane assignments will change for each match.

b.      If the division has an odd number of teams, each team will have a bye match. Bye match points will count in the Match Play finals total. Teams must bowl a total of 20 pins over average for two games to win match points.

c.      Total pins-over-average for two games determines the winner of the match.

i.     Teams earn 2 points for winning the match.

d.      Tied matches will be resolved by a Best Ball roll-off.

i.     Both bowlers on each team will bowl one ball at a full set of pins. The team with the highest two-ball total will be declared the winner of the match.

ii.     Teams will bowl on the lane on which they started the 1st game of the match.

4.      Upper Class division winners are determined by total Match Play points – Match points plus bonus points.

a.      Each game, teams will earn bonus points for each 10 pins over average (1 to 10 = 1 point, 11-20 = 2 points, etc.)

b.      There are no bonus points for bowling scores below or equal to average.

14.  Prize fund distributions:

a.  Team prize fund for each division – Sponsor Funds + $70.00 from each team entry + 100% of all late fees + other added funds.

Guaranteed minimum payouts:

Upper Classman Divisions        

1st place  $3000 ($1500 per bowler)  

2nd place $1000 ($500 per bowler)                             

3rd place  $800 ($400 per bowler)                               

4th place  $700 ($350 per bowler)                               

5th place  $600 ($300 per bowler)                     

6th place  $500 ($250 per bowler)                               

7th place  $400 ($200 per bowler)                               

8th place  $200 ($100 per bowler)                               


Under Classman Division

1st place  $2000 ($1000 per bowler)

2nd place $800 ($400 per bowler)

3rd place $600 ($300 per bowler)

4th place $500 ($250 per bowler)

5th place $400 ($200 per bowler)

6th place $300 ($150 per bowler)

7th place $200 ($100 per bowler)

8th place $100 ($50 per bowler)


15.  Special Team Recognition (both divisions):  $10.00 from each team entry

a.      300 Game - $100.00 per team per occurrence

b.      Qualifying round

i.     Clean Game - $20.00 per team per occurrence

ii.     Clean 10 Game Series - $100.00 per team

c.      Match Play finals

i.     Clean Game - $20 per team per occurrence

d.      Excess unused special team recognition prize funds will be added to the team prize fund for 3rd place through last paid position awards.

16.  Standings will be posted on www.virginiabeachyouthbowlinginc.com. All standings will be unofficial until declared official in writing by the Tournament Manager.

17.  All prizes will be scholarship awards posted to SMART account 9942.

18.  All tournament staff and volunteers will be SafeSport compliant per USBC guidelines.

19.  All decisions of the tournament manager are final unless an appeal is made in accordance with USBC Rule 329.
